Do you knwo aSmallWorld ? It’s a social network service similar to Friendseter or Facebook. The only difference is that it’s an exclusive invitation-only network with roughly 300,000 members. aSmallWorld is very private, but when you get in, you are near Heaven..
aSmallWorld shares many features with other social network services, such as profiles, an event calendar, and private messaging. Members can also buy, and sell items using aSmallWorld’s private forums or even rent property or find a flatmate. But this social site matches together all the most hype, rich and powerful people of the world (such as Hedi Slimane, Karl Lagerfeld, Barack Obama or Will Smith). Members are people with large personal networks, frequent travel and high wages.
If you have a profile on aSmallWorld, you can easily find an internship all over the world and have great career opportunities.
The only problem is the way to enter aSmallWorld: you have to be invited by a member (each member has just the possibility to invite a new member each year). If you don’t know celebrities, the solution can be to go to The Baroon..
The trick of this story if that Internet -which one of the values is to create social link between people- can recreate social inequalities..
Here is the site, but it is useless if you are not a member.
Don’t feel bad if you don’t understand the title of my post, it is just a reference from the favorite TV show of Vianney and Antoine which talks about Upper East Sidders.
Anyway, let’s focus. Oh, one last thing before being completly serious in this article. Have a look to Marie’s blog, it’s very hilarious. As a teaser, I reveal you here a gossip: the former title of her blog was “In blog with you”.. what a fabulous pun on words, I don’t know why she decided to change..
I use Internet everyday for both personnal and professionnal uses.
First, let’s see the personnal uses. After a long day at Celsa, I get back home and check my mails while lauching my playlist on Deezer. Once this done, I go on this site (don’t be affraid, you can click on it..). It’s the website of the newspaper AS, the reference for each Real Madrid fan. I watch videos of Vincent Delerm shows on Youtube and sometines I check people who poke me on Facebook (to be honest, I mostly detag the pictures of me an unconsiderate person has just posted). Finally, I surf on Gawker, the Manhattan Madia News and Gossip blog (thank you Erwan for this).
Internet is also very important for my personnal uses. With the web, one can create a resume online with pictures and clean presentation. Then, you can subscrie to various websites specialised in internships and fin a job wherever in the world. Personnaly, I found my internship thanks to the Celsa website. These days, I am looking for an internship in the US, and thanks to the web, I could check the careers opporunity in MLS (Major League Soccer). Moreover, Internet is very important when you have to do business with people who are aborad. Programs like Skype is a chance for webconference or free long-distance calls.
That’s all.
By the way, if you want to understand the reference I talk about at the begining of this post, let’s have a look to the video below:
Internet is very usefull for all the ugly guys and girls of the world. Thanks to the Web, everybody can seduce the girl of his dreams.
On the Web, you can create a fake profil, select the pictures where you are good looking, transform your size and weight, invent you a womanizer profile (yes, it’s very realistic to write that you dated Paris H. at the Viper Room in Hollywood two years ago), etc… Even if you are the worst looser of all time, don’t be desperate anymore. Internet may turns you into a georgous bachelor.
There is numerous examples of social networks (such as Meetic or Gaypax) which allow people of the world to meet themselves and fix dates. But when you subscribes to these sites, you may define you whatever you want. Even if you have the sex appeal of Gerard Jugnot, you can say that you are like Will Smith in Hitch (or Marcello Mastroiani in La Dolce Vita). Some people in the class might share their experiences of this subject..
Oh gosh, Facebook just appears! That’s what numerous people could have said to themselves when the most famous social network was created. If Facebook can also be a network where poeple ask for dates everyday (the site doesn’t have stolen its nickname “Fessebook”), you have to present you as you are. Your friends know how you are, what do you look like, and you cannot trick anymore. Ah.. the end of the dream.
Anyway, we don’t have to forget the dramas caused by hidden identity on Internet: after hours of hesitation, you finally decides the meet the guy you chat with since 2 years. When you come for the rendez-vous, you look like someone who “has the same charisma as Chuch Bass (the famous Upper East Sidder from GG whom Paul Chaumont is just crazy about”)… and you just faces a fat drawlf with a disgusting breath.
Erratum: let’s just clear something, the previous story isn’t a true-story inspired by the life of the author.

Internet favorizes the flow of free information thanks to the blogosphere, and this can cetainly change the world by helping transparency and democraty.
The huge explosion and the rising popularity (each week, thousands of new users join the net) of Internet could (and have already begin to) change the world.
Since a few years, Internet has seen the birth of a new era called the Web 2.0. One of the most relevant advantages offered by the Web 2.0 is the blogosphere, which is a collective term encompassing all blogs and their interconnections. It is the perception that blogs exist together as a connected community or as a social network.
Change the world? This is the secret goal of many bloggers. And this has to be considered seriously. In the United States, it is a blog which revealed the Lewinskygate. The journalists were afraid to write a paper about this scandal, because there feared the wraths of the Clinton family. After this affair, the journalist were aware that the blogosphere was going stronger than them. In lot of Middle East countries, bloggers are proud to say that they are at the origin of the resignation of rotten officials and tricky CEO.
The bloggers are not just obscur geeks or young nerds. They might also be executives and managers of multinational firms. When the journalists are sometimes obliged to shut them up because of the power of advertisers and politicians, the bloggers are totally free to write what they want. There is no self-censorship just because there is no political or economic pressure. Nobody is behind the back of bloggers. They are their own boss. And feel free to post, write, and discuss everything.
Hence, the ideal of a society of perfect information is maybe becoming a reality. The paradigm of a “world of transparency” (whith a free flow of information) may be realised these days.
The web has something extraordinary: it could make you rich without spending a penny! You just have to create a buzz. This is a good solution for people, enterprises or social causes who don’t have money to communicate because it’s very cheap and free.
The major word is creativity. Imagination can lead you to communicate well and make a buzz on the web. It’s a phenomenon very famous lately and which works perfectly (the web users and geeks are always aware of the latest web buzz videos or contents and create “click links” which promotes your cause).
Go here, there is a great article about this subject.
The world famous social network has openned its service to ouside developers. Everybody can create tools, games or anything else.
It could be you, if you are a creative and motivated geek.
With a good idea, you could earn a lot of money because there is millions of users.. But don’t be idealistic, it’s pretty difficult to realise. Two guys of the class, V. and C., have tried to develop an application and this ended by a pathetic failure.
When you are almost destitute, you reach the bottom, you always can sell old unusefull stuffs on eBay. It’s easy, safe, fast and bring you money. Of course, you won’t be a millionaire, but you could buy something to survive..
